PRESIDENT'S GREETING

PRESIDENT'S GREETING FOR SEPTEMBER

Well, another school year is upon us. If you're like me, you're freaking out right about now as you think of everything you didn't get done this summer and everything you feel you ought to be doing as students arrive fresh and eager for the new year. Or, you're sitting pretty, enjoying the last days of summer knowing that your retirement has given you a less "seasonal" approach to your year.

But despite my own personal anxiety, I'm also learning that it's actually quite easy to link up with fellow MATA members to: get out of the house/studio/classroom and break up the routine, share a personal or professional predicament, get some perspective on a particular situation, get advice or resources on how to solve a problem, etc. The key, though, is the linking up. Now is the time, if you haven't already, to submit/renew your membership! (I just did mine....) It's the best and easiest way to stay involved.

Also, especially as the school year begins, ask other art teachers you know if they're aware of our organization and the benefits of membership. We understand that with new state-mandated payroll deductions and recent wall-street pitfalls that personal finances are more tight these days. But MATA membership is your local professional association, and your Board wants to make membership valuable to you.

To this end, we are planning some meetings/workshops (in addition to the social events) that we hope will help you be more "plugged in" to what MATA members are up to. One, scheduled for November, will give members skills in using our website--which will soon become more interactive, allowing members to post notices, initiate outings and suggest activities themselves!

So keep the MATA calendar handy, what with the Reuss Federal Building exhibit and Fall social events on the horizon. Don't be left out this year; be a part of the ever-evolving MATA!!!

Artfully Yours,
Dave Cicero

PS: A new-member "Welcome!" letter that includes typical procedures for entering MATA shows is being drafted. If you are not a new member but still would like this letter, just let me know and I'll make sure you get a copy.

PPS: We continue to explore options for our Spring Membership Show venue, which we would like to be located again in a central Milwaukee location. If you have specific suggestions and contact names, please share them with me.
