PRESIDENT'S GREETING FOR OCTOBER

OK, everyone (well, not everyone, but you know who you are): time to stop the procrastinating.....now's the time to "ante up" for another year if you haven't already done so. While your membership information/renewal will still be accepted after October ends, we use this month as our unofficial deadline. If you haven't renewed by the end of the month we'll assume you aren't renewing, and you won't be included in our annual directory. You'll also stop getting reminder notices to check for monthly website updates that will keep you up to date on MATA's activities. Click here to renew!!

This month's include our Reuss exhibit of larger-scale work in downtown Milwaukee and a "Meet'n'Greet" social event at the Ale House, where you and your guest/s (partners? potential new members?) can get to know other MATA members a bit better. I feel fortunate to be working in a public school district that has decided to involve its teaching staff in developing its new "ground rules" for the political and organizational landscape we now find ourselves in. But this doesn't mean I haven't been a part of lots of change in how teachers are being asked to do their business. It's challenging to deal with.

Luckily mine is also a district that has a history of collaboration--both official (PLC's, etc.) and unofficial (happy hours, etc.) Other districts and organizations I have worked for in the past were either smaller or less collegial, so I know how isolating teaching can be. Let's make a point of sharing our challenges--and successes--with each other.

Exhibit installations and receptions are one place to do so. Social events are another. And soon MATA will have its own network we can all plug into. Be on the lookout for that announcement, and a chance to learn how to use it to connect with other members you may not otherwise have the opportunity to collaborate with. The MATA ning network is up and running. You will receive an invitation to join soon. One more reason to renew.
