PRESIDENT'S GREETING
PRESIDENT'S GREETING FOR FEBRUARY 2012
Hopefully you've had a chance by now to swing by Carroll University to see our umpteenth annual Drawing,Printmaking and Photography exhibit. Carroll U. has a long-standing relationship with MATA, and we appreciate their continued support of the work we do. Those of you at the reception last month know that Eddee Daniel, Jeanne Raccoli-Baas, Phil Krejcarek, Virgi Driscoll (and I) all won awards as chosen by our juror, Barb Reinhart, Art professor at UW-Waukesha. (On a related note: You will most likely see Barb at future events, now as a MATA member...she's decided to join us now that she's met several members and learned a little bit more about who we are and what we do.) Those who have not yet seen the show have until Feb. 10 to do so.
Participating D/P/Ph show artists: Please note the pick-up time for your work of Saturday, Feb. 11, from 8-9 am. If you are unable to do so yourself, please make arrangements for your work to be picked up for you. Our next Board meeting will take place immediately following the D/P/Ph pick-up. Members-at-large are always welcome to attend Board meetings to observe or offer non-binding commentary and suggestions.
Several people are starting to ask about details regarding our Spring Member Show. As many of you know, our long-standing venue had a change of heart last year about artistic freedom of expression and insurance liability coverage. And so, we were left to seek out a new venue. Last year, with little to no lead-time, Carroll University stepped up with space for us. But your MATA Board feels strongly about returning this "Milwaukee Area" organization's member show to a more centrally-located spot.
A few 2012 venues are still in the running (with a verbally-confirmed venue--Marcus Center for the Performing Arts?--already in place for Summer, 2013), but firm plans are yet to be finalized. I don't want to publish names here, but ask a Board member and we'll be happy to discuss with you some of the options still being considered. One thing the Board did decide last month, however, was to delay the show until early summer (rather than have it in late Spring, as school-years wind down.) We plan to have a confirmed venue by our February meeting, and exact dates/details/etc. will be shared with all members shortly thereafter--once everything is confirmed with our 2012 host.
Looking forward to seeing/hearing from you on the Ning network soon!
Artfully yours,
Dave Cicero
