PRESIDENT'S GREETING

PRESIDENT'S GREETING FOR APRIL AND MAY
I apologize for this late combined greeting. April began with quite a bit of turmoil in my own life and it has been difficult to find time to attend to MATA business. There has been a lot on my plate this month and unfortunately MATA business was one of the things I had to let go for a little while. Please accept my apologies for the delay in this website update and greeting.

As I write this greeting the moist green grass is flecked with snow and the air is tinged with dampness that seems more like November rather than spring. The tulips are nearly open and the daffodils are bursting and so it is in fact spring if cold and blustery. Spring is the time of new life, new chances, cleaning out the old and starting fresh. As an artist it is time to look at your own creations and perhaps dive into new media or visit a gallery or exhibit you've never visited before. Clean out that corner of your studio or the clutter strewn desk and find a new direction for your artwork and art knowledge.

Spring can also be a time of exuberant busy-ness and activity, with gardens to be planted, graduations to plan, school years to finish and much more, it is easy to get overwhelmed. Find balance this spring and celebrate the artist you are and the arts colleagues you are so fortunate to have. Consider attending the Spring membership exhibit, even if you haven't entered work. The exhibit is a wonderful celebration of the visions and thoughts of our membership. The party we host each spring is also a "feel good" event intended to highlight the achievements of artist educators. Now more than ever it is important that we band together and support each other. Please consider attending the exhibit opening reception on Saturday, May 21st from 5:00-6:30 at the 100 East Wisconsin Building. Join us for the dinner too, as we share a feast and toast to our many talented members. Click here for more details on the show.

It is my hope that spring finds you refreshed and renewed with energy and vitality to make it to the end of the school year. It is my hope that you find time for the pursuit of art making and the camaraderie of your colleagues and friends in MATA. Happy Spring!

Jeanne
