MATA Membership

Becoming a member of MATA is one of the best investments you can make as an artist educator.

You will gain friends, colleagues who share your views, ideals, frustrations and more.

You will gain perspective on the many ways the visual arts are taught in the Milwaukee area.

You will gain experience as the MATA membership boasts artist educators with more than 30 and in some cases as much as 50 years of teaching and art making experience.

This year's current MATA president, Dave Cicero, said it best in his greeting letter to new members:

An organization's strength is measured in many ways.  One of the more important is the infusion of "new blood".  The energy you bring as a new member of MATA is critical to our success as an organization--one that has been in place since 1940, when a group of Milwaukee Art teachers decided that their periodic social get-togethers were important enough to make them "official" business.

            Being an active member of MATA has kept me making and exhibiting art regularly, conversing and sharing with artists and teachers outside my school, and has kept my finger on the pulse of the local art community--all of which, I feel, make me a more informed and vibrant teacher at work.  Some members have found their current positions (and even spouses!) because of their MATA involvement.  It's a valuable professional organization, and I am glad you've decided to be a part of it.
